Children's Art Competition
To illustrate Bamse's love of children, the Montrose Primary Schools were invited to enter an art competition based on the adventures of Bamse.
A Bamse Book
Huge worldwide interest in the Bamse story arose during the two year statue fund raising campaign. Many, many people have been asking the question –
"when is there to be a book?"
There can be no doubt at all that there is a very strong demand for a book.
At an early point Dr Andrew Orr of the Montrose Heritage Trust began to collate known material about the legendary dog (see bibliography if this is being included elsewhere on the site). Various people associated with Bamse were contacted – members of Captain Hafto's family, Navy veterans and their families, and others who were involved with the story. All their memories and accounts have been recorded. With increasing publicity many more people have come forward with tales to tell. Contemporary wartime photos have been gathered together. There is now a substantial collection of fascinating material, and it is vital that this is published.
Discussions are now taking place between The Montrose Heritage Trust, a well known Scottish writer and a major Scottish publisher with a view to launching a book project during the Summer of 2007.
